China Railways Post Strong Freight Growth in First 7 Months
(MENAFN) China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. reported Monday that the nation’s railway freight volume maintained steady growth from January to July 2025, driven by streamlined network operations and enhanced service delivery.
In the first seven months of the year, China’s railway system moved more than 2.33 billion tonnes of cargo, reflecting a 3.3% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The average number of freight cars loaded daily reached 183,300—up 4.1% year over year, the company said.
Coal shipments alone accounted for over 1.19 billion tonnes. Meanwhile, freight volumes for mineral construction materials and grain climbed by 13.6% and 12.7%, respectively.
Cross-border logistics also saw strong momentum. A total of 8,526 Central Asia freight train trips were completed in the January–July window, up 23.2% from a year earlier. The China-Laos Railway handled more than 3.44 million tonnes of international cargo, marking a 6.4% year-on-year increase.
The company stated it will move swiftly to advance a modern railway logistics network, push forward with market-driven reforms in freight transport, and enhance both the quality and efficiency of its logistics services.
