Trump Blasts Chicago Officials After Surge of Violence

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump sharply criticized Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson following a deadly surge of violence in Chicago over the weekend.

On the social media platform Truth Social, Trump highlighted reports of six fatalities and 27 injuries in the city, stating: “Panic stricken Governor Pritzker says that crime is under control, when in fact it is just the opposite.”

Labeling Pritzker as “incompetent,” Trump insisted the governor should request his assistance. He also disparaged Mayor Johnson, claiming he is “no better” than Pritzker.

In a separate post, Trump referenced his recent declaration of a “public safety emergency” in Washington, DC, asserting it led to tangible crime reduction.

“CRIME NUMBERS ARE WAY DOWN IN DC! AMAZING PROGRESS BEING MADE! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DJT” he wrote.

Since assuming office, Trump has consistently blamed Washington’s local officials for inadequate responses to crime and homelessness, arguing the federal government must intervene to make the city “safe, clean, and livable.”

On Friday, Trump announced plans for a federal crackdown targeting crime in Chicago and New York. This follows his declaration of a "crime emergency" in Washington, DC, where he placed the Metropolitan Police Department under federal oversight and deployed nearly 2,000 National Guard troops to patrol the streets.
