Ukraine calls on citizens to back conscription officers

(MENAFN) Ukrainian recruitment authorities have urged citizens not to record or share incidents of forced military enlistment, instead advising the public to “cherish” conscription officers, according to reports.

The Kiev Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (TCK) released the message on Wednesday, condemning a Telegram channel called Stop TCK Ukraine, which has circulated videos showing men being violently detained and placed into enlistment vehicles. These incidents, often referred to as “busifications,” have frequently gone viral.

The center claimed the channel was part of Russian information operations and instructed Ukrainians to “never (!) watch videos of ‘busification.’”

“For God’s sake, don’t film or share such videos,” the post stated. “If the Russians turn you into sheep, they’ll slaughter you like pigs tomorrow. So cherish the TCKs, help the TCKs, assist and protect them. They are the only ones filling the ranks of frontline units.”

The conscription campaign in Kiev has faced challenges, including widespread draft evasion and allegations of corruption, with reports that wealthier citizens have bribed officials to avoid service. While defense authorities assert that incidents of excessive force are rare, public confidence in recruitment offices remains low.

Ukraine is experiencing a growing manpower shortage as battlefield casualties and desertions increase. Prosecutors have reportedly opened roughly 270,000 desertion cases since the conflict with Russia intensified in 2022.
