King of Jordan, Sweden PM talk about collaboration, local stability
(MENAFN) His Majesty King Abdullah met with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson on Tuesday to discuss the long-standing relations between Jordan and Sweden. The leaders held bilateral talks followed by expanded meetings focusing on enhancing cooperation across trade, investment, tourism, cybersecurity, counterterrorism, and defense, according to a Royal Court statement.
The discussions also addressed recent developments in the region. His Majesty highlighted the shared perspectives of Jordan and Sweden on key regional issues, particularly the Palestinian cause, stressing support for efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on a two-state solution and the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
King Abdullah praised Sweden’s contributions to humanitarian relief in Gaza and emphasized the importance of resuming support for UNRWA in line with its UN mandate. Regarding efforts to end the war in Gaza, he called for an immediate ceasefire and the delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid across the Strip, in line with U.S. President Donald Trump’s Gaza proposal.
The King also noted Jordan’s coordination with regional partners to promote stability, highlighting Sweden’s role in supporting peace initiatives within the European Union. He warned of the risks posed by Israeli escalations in the West Bank and Jerusalem and reiterated Jordan’s backing for Syria and Lebanon in maintaining security, stability, and territorial sovereignty.
Prime Minister Kristersson highlighted the value of Sweden’s partnership with Jordan both bilaterally and within the frameworks of the EU and NATO, expressing his readiness to strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Director of the Royal Court, Alaa Batayneh, attended the meeting.
