Humanitarian Aid Flotilla Reaches Cuba Amid US Blockade

(MENAFN) A vessel delivering humanitarian supplies arrived at the Port of Havana on Tuesday morning, marking the first of three boats in the ‘Nuestra America’ (Our America) flotilla.

The convoy brought essential goods including medical supplies, food, and solar panels to Cuba, which is facing a worsening humanitarian crisis due to a comprehensive oil blockade imposed by the United States since January.

The boat departed from Mexico on Friday as part of a larger coalition organized by leftist groups, including those behind the Global Sumud Flotilla that attempted to deliver aid to Gaza last year.

The 75-foot Maguro shrimp boat made a ceremonial arrival shortly after sunrise, although it had docked in darkness during the early hours. The landing, originally scheduled for Saturday, was delayed by severe weather in the Caribbean Sea, according to organizers. Two additional ships in the flotilla are expected to arrive in the coming days.

As the vessel entered the harbor, crew members stood on the stern leading chants of “Let Cuba live” and “Abajo el bloqueo” (Down with the blockade). A voice over a loudspeaker echoed “Viva la revolucion” (Long live the revolution).

“We came to show solidarity with the Cuban people in this very difficult moment with the intensification of the blockade by the United States,” said Saul Vega, 23, a Mexican activist aboard the boat.
